Midtown Medical Center

Midtown Medical Center traces its roots back to 1836 when the Columbus, GA hospital was a small wooden building on the banks of the Chattahoochee River. Today, the 583-licensed bed, acute care hospital meets the health and medical needs of a diverse community with a wide array of services, many of which are available nowhere else in the region.

As one of only six regional perinatal centers in the state, Midtown Medical Center is entrusted with the care of infants from 21 surrounding Georgia and Alabama counties. It also provides advanced emergency services across 13 Georgia counties as a Level 2 trauma center and offers a comprehensive range of rehabilitation services including physical, occupational and speech recovery.

The Children’s Hospital at Midtown Medical Center serves women across their life span and children from birth through age 21. Both the High Risk Nursery (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) and Special Care Nursery are equipped to provide an advanced level of treatment. Midtown Medical Center is also home to the region’s only dedicated pediatric program, including a full-service Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU).

The special needs of children and their families are addressed through unique décor designed to put children at ease, private and semi-private rooms, specialized rooms for oncology patients and amenities for family members. A child life specialist eases the trauma a hospital visit can cause for a child or family.

Midtown Medical Center has been home to the Family Medicine Residency Program since 1972. The nationally recognized program, which was the first of its kind in Georgia and one of the first in the Southeast, has graduated more than 300 family physicians.

Midtown Medical Center at Columbus Regional Health defines excellence in its quality of care through a comprehensive network of services that touch the lives of many children and adults in the region.
