Children aren’t just little adults. The diseases they get are different. And the way we treat them is different. That’s why Piedmont Columbus Regional offers such a wide range of services, specifically for the healthcare needs of children. From specialized facilities to providers with many years of specialized training to child life therapy, Piedmont Columbus Regional cares about kids.
Primary care physicians, both adult and pediatric, rarely lead their patient’s care once a patient is admitted to the hospital. That’s why our Children’s Hospital at Piedmont Columbus Regional Midtown Campus has developed a pediatric hospitalist program. If your child is ever admitted, they are treated by two physicians and three nurse practitioners who know how to interact with children and who are specifically trained to address the unique needs of a child in a hospital setting.
Being admitted to a hospital can be scary, especially for kids. That’s why we have a child life therapy program at the Children’s Hospital at Piedmont Columbus Regional Midtown Campus. Our certified child life specialist helps kids understand illness and hospitalization. They work with your child to help make her hospital stay as normal as possible.
Safe Kids, a national organization focused on preventing childhood injuries, partners with Piedmont Columbus Regional. In fact, the Safe Kids Columbus Partnership is housed entirely at Piedmont Columbus Regional Midtown Campus. We promote childhood safety and the prevention of unintentional injuries through car seat fitting, bike helmet giveaways, water safety education and more
Our commitment to caring for the well-being of children goes beyond our medical services and facilities. We partner with local schools, visiting regularly to provide education for hygiene, concussion awareness and other health and wellness topics.
Our high risk and special care nursery is the only NICU for 21 counties. It features 40 beds, three neonatologists and a respiratory therapist, all so your baby can receive the extra attention she’ll need if she’s born with critical care needs.
Having the only pediatric neurologist in the region, we treat seizures, headaches, movement disorders and other neurological issues. Thanks to the availability of this advanced specialty, children who display these kinds of symptoms are seen quickly without having to go to Atlanta or Birmingham.
Our Pediatric ER providers are board-certified in pediatric medicine, emergency medicine or both. Each team member has extensive experience in the pediatric ER and knows how to treat children in this setting, from starting an IV the right way to calming down a frightened child.
